Slow Food on Film
International Festival of Cinema and Food
Slow Food on Film is an international film and food festival organized by the Slow Food movement and the Cineteca di Bologna.
Slow Food on Film encourages a new critical awareness in food culture, showcasing features, shorts, documentaries and TV series that take an original look at food (dealing with appetites, perversions, identities and emotions), confront the issues of the food industry (its economic, social and environmental effects) or focus on gastronomic memory as a heritage to be preserved.
After three successful pioneering editions in Bra (2002, 2004 and 2006), and two hugely popular editions in Bologna (2008 and 2009) organized in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, Slow Food on Film will not be returning in spring 2010 as previously announced.
JOINT STATEMENT FROM GIAN LUCA FARINELLI, DIRECTOR OF THE CINETECA DI BOLOGNA, AND ROBERTO BURDESE, PRESIDENT OF SLOW FOOD ITALY
It is with great regret that the Cineteca di Bologna and Slow Food announce that the Slow Food on Film festival will not be held in 2010.
Though inauspicious signs had been in the air for some time, this sad news is only being announced at this late date because the festival’s two main organizers were using all possible means to try to find the financial resources necessary to hold the festival this year. Unfortunately, these attempts were not successful.
In just two years in Bologna (after the early versions in Bra), Slow Food on Film managed to shape a hugely popular formula, encouraging a new critical awareness in food culture, showcasing features, shorts, documentaries and TV series that take an original look at food (dealing with appetites, perversions, identities and emotions), confront the issues of the food industry (its economic, social and environmental effects) or focus on gastronomic memory as a heritage to be preserved.
The festival was brought together by a shared “pleasure of the text” (audiovisual and gastronomic) and love of entertainment (cinematic and convivial). Having taken on the challenge of producing awareness, reflection and culture by intersecting the worlds of food and film, the Cineteca di Bologna and Slow Food will not be abandoning this challenge, and are working together for the resumption of Slow Food on Film in 2011.
